wHispers: A Gift From God (the origin of wHispers)

Healing from a stroke, I had been praying to cut back on ministry commitments. Instead God gave me a passion for women’s ministries; something new for me. Confused, I began praying for understanding and about two months later, I closed a written prayer by asking God to help me stay so close to Him that I could hear even His most quiet whispers. Immediately, I knew I had just written the name of a new ministry for women!

Even more startling was that in my mind’s eye, the word was “wHispers” – lower case letters except for a capital H! Considering the word an acronym, I knew instinctively the H stood for He, Him,or His, and then I looked to finish it. The first part came easily – “when He is so precious”, but what to do with e-r-s? I searched my Bible concordance for “e” words and the one that stood out was even, and “r” was rock or rocks, and then I had it – when He is so precious even rocks sing!

I was thrilled with what I recognized as God’s affirmation of a ministry to which I felt He was now leading me. When I had considered that possibility, I had unbelievers and seekers in mind and now I wondered will women who don’t have a personal relationship with the Lord, understand the acronym? Will they be inspired to want more, or will they be turned off?

It was then that my husband, Stefan, came downstairs. Calling to him, I explained what had happened, but only up to e-r-s, adding, “I’m just not sure about e-r-s”.

Stefan, only half awake, didn’t respond and I wondered if he had even heard me. He went outside to get the newspaper and on his return, closed the door and called out, “How about even rocks sing?” I was delighted that God chose to affirm this ministry through Stefan.

wHispers Mission and Vision Statement

To nurture and encourage women with the love of Christ so we find strength and courage for our journeys, and empowerment to share Gods love, grace and faithfulness with each other and with women who do not yet have a personal relationship with Jesus. We hope to encourage love, respect and unity with Christian women from other churches.

We present vocal artists and gifted speakers who, through a Biblical perspective, help us to develop a deeper awareness of God’s unconditional love, grace and faithfulness. It is our hope to grow spiritually, build relationships, and experience emotional support as we “…encourage one another and lift each other up…” 1 Thessalonians 5:11
